The city limits of Houston encompass about 650 square miles. The Salt Lake metro area is about 750. The city limits of Houston has about double the people that SLC metro does. Somehow, SLC has twice the miles of light rail. That’s quite sad

SLC is very spread out, it’s not very dense. They still have streetcars that run in the middle of the roads, whereas most cities abandoned them

Yes that’s why it’s crazy. Density and public transit go hand in hand. The fact that a metro like SLC has more train miles than the city of Houston is wild. Not to mention that Houston metro is the poster child of sprawl and would benefit greatly from light rail and even heavy rail reaching into the suburbs. SLC also has a commuter line that touches all of the major towns/cities in Utah
