People try to act like the problem with🇮🇱 is Bibi. The problem is Israeli society. While 🇮🇱has multiple parties it’s still a largely right society when it comes to foreign policy. The leader of the opposition party even advocates for greater 🇮🇱 🥴😵‍💫

Why’d you crop out the community note?

to be fair this was the original exchange, it was more huckabee’s position than lapid’s. he should have said no but it’s not like this is his ideology

History is why every fucking expansionist power decides to invade neighboring countries that’s how fucking linear time works

Moshe Dayan himself literally said that Israel started shit with Syria so they’d have an excuse to take the Golan heights

Israel’s historic attacks by Arab states, and also the expulsion of the Mizrahi Jews is why Israeli society is so radically right wing, expansionist, and anti-Arab. That doesn’t excuse it. When Turkey genocided Armenians and Greeks, or Russia genocided Circassians, or America forcefully relocated natives to reservations, or hell when Russia invaded Georgia and Ukraine, they were also minimizing security threats.

Hell, here’s a quote from a prime minister in apartheid South Africa. They invaded Angola to neutralize pro-independence Namibian militant groups who were using it as a base to launch incursions into occupied South-West Africa (now Namibia)

1. I didn’t there was no community note at the time that I posted this & I literally just checked & I still don’t see a community note 2. I did crop the photo because I couldn’t fit all of the text & photo in one picture so this was the only way to make it all fit

I guess my point is that being involved in conflict is advantageous for the expansionist sects of Israeli society. It provides an excuse to invade more areas. This is why Netanyahu opposes recognition of the Palestinian authority, and why some members of the Israeli government saw Hamas’s takeover of Gaza as advantageous. If Israel is at peace with all the surrounding states, there isn’t a justification for grabbing more land.

That’s strange I legit don’t see it. The only thing I can think of is maybe the community note was removed for being bad

It’s suggested currently. You’re probably not apart of the community notes program. It gets marked as unhelpful when it’s removed, it’s probably just too new to display it for everyone yet

That makes snese because the pic you posted literally says “Not shown on X” & “Needs more ratings” I just have the basic twitter. So I’m assuming if you’re in the program you can see the community notes early & people in the program rate them before they’re released to the public for regular users like me.

Also I just read the article from the Forward that the community note sites & it doesn’t disprove the post at all.

To be fair, how do you expect an article on a what was said at a meeting to disprove something that wasn’t said at the meeting?

Maybe you & I have a very different understanding of the post. Because I didn’t read it as Lapid said those things while meeting with the Dems. Just that the Dems are meeting with Lapid who has said those things. Hell DropSite even post the video of him saying it & an article in the comments.

It reads like he’s trying not to publicly go against huckabee. The real story here is that Huckabee has these opinions and is our ambassador

It reads like he’s trying not to antagonise loony tunes Mike huckabee who originally proposed the idea. Lapid last election supported the two state solution so this would be quite the departure

I think that’s a charitable but still somewhat plausible interpretation of what he’s trying to do. He does say multiple times he believes in the biblical borders so idk. To me it sounds like he’s saying as long as it’s practical & manageable he’d be for it but he’s not 100% sure that it is currently

In isolation it’s charitable but knowing his party and history this is not really on brand. It sounds like an appeal to Christian Zionists. Yesh Atid is also secular so the bible speak is not really what they’re about. And this is more than even Ben Gvir proposes lol so this would be quite the rebrand

It’s irresponsible rhetoric nonetheless and he definitely had the ability to push back on such an insane proposal more than he did. It’s not like huckabee is about to turn around and support Palestinians

Got it thanks for the incite & I don’t disagree. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t there a decent uptick in the amount of settlements being built under the short lived Bennett-Lapid controlled government?

Oh they are not some left wing government whatsoever. Like almost every Israeli party they pay lip service to the two state solution while actively undermining it. It’s just this greater Israel/ iraq thing is next level even for them

Got it thank you for information that makes sense. Yeah I always found the talk about a two state solution not to really make sense considering the illegal settlements constantly being built.

iirc lapid never actually got a chance to be PM during the whole unity government thing bc the government fell apart during bennett’s term (the right-wing one). lapis is actually pretty anti-settlement and when he was finance minister he did do what he could to stop the expansion. his position is what a lot of center-left israelis think: that israel should maintain the majority of the settlements that are along its border and should arrange land swaps to make up the lost area to the west bank
