Humans are the pinnacle of evolution and it is our right and destiny to explore space and rule over it

Biologist here. Nothing is “more evolved” than any other organism. Evolution has no pinnacle, it has no destiny, and it has no intent.

We can’t even agree on how the weather works on our own planet

Humans have more “primitive” hands then chimps- their hands are “more evolved” then ours in the sense that they are better for climbing, moving around etc

Anyways my point is that there is no pinnacle to evolution as we as a population are evolving, even today. But humans hands are more primitive in that they’ve changed less then chimp hands

Would you say that monkeys and modern humans are equal?

In evolutionary terms, absolutely. All organisms are. Are we equal in intelligence? No. But they are better at climbing than we are. A squirrel monkey is better than a human at living in dense rainforest.

Which would you say is superior than the other

Neither. “Superior” is not an objective metric. We are better at some things because we evolved to specialize in certain ways, they are better at others.

Im not even sure that’s correct, sponges and humans are on vastly different evolutionary levels

Nope. Evolution doesn’t have levels. That’s an outdated 19th century idea. A sponge is a vastly more hardy organism than humans in the face of global catastrophe. When earth nearly froze over in the Cryogenian, sponges were there and they survived fine. We are smarter, but we are more fragile. Our intelligence, endothermy, high nutrient requirements. All the things that have allowed us to make a civilization, brings with it a volatility.

Evolution doesn’t care who is more intelligent or who is more complex. It just moves towards whatever works good enough in the moment. Being a dumb simple animal can be extremely successful in the long run. Sponges have existed for hundreds of millions of years.

Interesting, I would’ve assumed that complex and simple organisms would be classified on different planes of evolution

Evolutionary planes is kind of an 1800s idea where guys were trying to place humans at the top. Evolution is just about whatever body plans are good enough to reproduce in the moment. There’s plenty of plants and animals which have evolved to be more simple (like many parasites). Plenty of species can also evolve themselves into a corner, where it’s what works good in the moment but they will die out when conditions change
