Yes yes imperialism bad, but maybe in stead of throwing the baby out with the bath water, we acknowledge faults in the current system, work towards fixing those issues, and continue to make sure millions of people aren’t dying preventable deaths…

it is in the US’ interest to have countries to trade with. Therefore we clearly must nuke everyone else

US interests aren’t bad by default. Some of the interests of people running it are, but that’s what makes things bad, not just that it’s the us

Sure, but I’m trying to reconcile with that alternative that is millions dead. What would they prefer? This shouldn’t even be a problem in the first place. In a perfect world with a perfect government we can just do good things for no ROI but we live under capitalism and ROI drives “charity” it’s all there is at the moment so what do we get for cutting off USAID? What do the people around the globe get for cutting off USAID? So far unnecessary death, but what about cutting it off makes that

Better for them? I haven’t seen a convincing argument…

Tbh I like what China is doing to the extent I have read about it, which is pretty much as far as swathes of investment in Africa and providing clean energy/ better infrastructure. So to that end, if China replaced the US on the world stage to provide people with investments then I’m all for that. But that also doesn’t address the material harm that cutting USAID has done and will continue to do to people?
