Psychologist need to study MAGA mindset bc it’s more than a cult. people in a cult at least know they’re in a cult at some point, but MAGA will deny and accuse if you say they’re a cult. Either they’re to dumb and brainwashed to see it or… microplastics

They've constructed their own false reality that denies any conflicting information

As a researcher it’s unfortunately a difficuly realm of psychology to study. We’d need to collect data from younger audiences such as college students and teenagers as well as baselines to get full concrete data which is very challenging to get IRB approval for

Although an older population would be a good sample, but many of them would reject taking part in a study/research because they reject science/psychology in general

I am working on a study on extremist ideology amonst college aged students currently which I’m hoping will explain the drastic increase in violent behavior over the last several years

I tried to do a study but i’m a second year psy student so people didn’t really care to take it seriously. They fit a lot of the broader criteria but theres also so much different about them that it’s not one explanation.

You should definitely keep pursuing research. I do a lot of cognitive research, terrorism, and human behavioral. It’s a very understudied field. But yes that is definitely an issue too. MAGA’s behavior is super interesting because he has a (for lack of better words) varied age/race/gender fanbase. He also lacks a lot of charisma (based in attractiveness and intellect) that we see in other dictator-like extremist leaders

I was talking to my friends before the election and we discussed about how Trump isn’t a good politician just a good social engineer. He doesn’t have much intelligence but the way he talks going to may different points within a short time frame so that the average MAGA republican who isn’t really into politics understands most of it and what he says thats contradictory is missed and forgotten. Thats at least why i took away from his campaign.

Definitely he creates a big “us versus them” dynamic that a lot of people who feel victimized (such as the male loneliness epidemic) resonate with. I think that would explain the red-pilled thing going on with the youth population right now due to youtubers like Andrew Tate. He says “edgy” things that target groups of people who are already “to blame” by his supporters and it grows his fanbase. It’s really weird seeing in real time

I’m hoping to actually get some sort of quantitative data but still working on an IRB proposal it’d be interesting to see where the roots of this lie

Yeah i hate not being able to open a book or google and find the answer, and also i do think it has something to do with the “i don’t want to be seen as weak and timid” façade that most red pill and right wingers promote. If you do write and publish a paper i would love to read it.
