They’re not comparing democratic socialism, they’re comparing a tabloid organization that co-opts the brand of democratic socialism. The Hasan wing is a vanguard branch that intentionally downplays their beliefs to court moderates using DSA branding and openly engages in accelerationism hoping for violent revolution. That’s why they trash AOC and Bernie so much.

Mostly they’re just endorsed by DSA, a big key indicator is that non DSA progressives don’t want the government to nationalize all private corporations. Any progressive that steps a toe out of line on this, dissolution of the entire police and prison system, or I/p get relentlessly harassed. He’ll just look at Scott Wiener, an already progressively to the left of most of the party and still not enough to avoid being run out of protests by faux DemSocs

Also- plenty of left politicians like Bernie and AOC support nationalizing specific companies like large AI companies, this isn’t really an unpopular position among voters especially when they’re concerned about public vs corporate interest in regards to data center expansion

That’s exactly what they prey on. Piker himself fully acknowledges that they use progressive messaging to radicalize followers toward Maoism. There is very literally nothing of value from communism or socialism that liberalism is incapable of providing in greater abundance. A key focal point of the ideology is inherently being able to improve upon its own short comings without authoritarian dictatorship.

Literally had the VP of DSA on just the other day and Piker is schedule to appear soon. They openly acknowledge that their intent is to dismantle the Democratic party from within, and to radicalize progressives by lying about the scope of their positions using generic and broad messaging.
