People who hate all uses of AI no matter what and people who use AI for every decision they make are on the same intelligence level in my eyes

Principled people are the same level of intelligence as those who want every single cognitive task completed for them

i have an ai computer with an npu (i don’t use it but i could). i have no issue with people running ai on their machines locally, or when it is deployed for research

I believe people who hate an extremely useful tool in the scientific community unconditionally because they cannot comprehend that it has upsides are not intelligent. If you are unable to weigh pros and cons of a situation and default to a morally superior and unrealistic stance to feel good, I don’t believe you’re intelligent

I think also it’s because when people say “AI” it has so many different contexts I have no issue with machine learning Chat bots and LLMs tho I will never ise

Like sure, people need to stop using ChatGPT to write their essays and give them health advice but there are plenty of genuine upsides that outweigh the cons

I’ve always been the advocate to use AI to study things like protein geometry or advanced mathematics, not to replace human jobs like therapists or artists But I don’t think that’s an uncommon take at all

Huh I have some friends that genuinely have gotten upset when I told them that I was using a machine learning model for a geophysics research project I’ve been working on. I also have been seeing a ton of discourse online about how all AI is bad and you are essentially a Neanderthal if you use it. Maybe I’ve just been interacting with a loud minority

Maybe, I do think I might be biased because I’m around a lot of other college students, but I do think there is a significant difference between AI for genuine research purposes versus large data centers being built for chatbots for the sole purpose of increasing the stock value of like 8 companies

data centers that allow corporations to practice widespread surveillance and automation are a net negative i think. not to mention, said corporations have made the computer market unaffordable for most. this may be a stretch, but the data centers are going to shift people away from owning their owning their own hardware, and force people to own a low powered systems that only have enough power to link to a datacenter. subscription based computers. i hope i’m wrong
