I grew up in the suburbs on a street with a black family, Indian families, an Arab family, a Jewish family, etc. And I can totally understand why someone would choose a quiet, safe neighborhood with a yard as opposed to a city

I grew up in the south, where there is a huge rural black population. I now live in a largish rural town in Oregon with major Native American and Latino populations. My town is literally more diverse than all the closest big cities. Also some people just like nature.

This feels like such a New England/upper Midwest urbanite take. Someone who lives in a diverse city surrounded by a white rural area and who is so high on their own sense of self-superiority that they think that is the standard for everywhere in the country and anyone who doesn’t like cities must be racist. Hey man let me fill you in the, suburbs surrounding your city are super fuckin racist.

Come to South Carolina, or Arizona, or Alaska. Go to any place with lots of Latino farm workers, or in Indian country, or in the black belt. That’ll undo your “rural means white” assumptions real quick.

FR, this is so pathetic. OP’s post reads like they’re actually one of the good people since they don’t mind staying in a city with minorities. Meanwhile there’s tons of rural diverse areas, they’re thinking about the sleeper suburbs right outside of NYC with million dollar houses.
