The vast majority of the United States was Christian at the time. That meant the north was mostly Christian and the south was mostly Christian

The north used the Bible to support their side. The south used the Bible to support their side. Almost like Christianity can be bent to support any argument or something.

This is a moot point. Most of the people who supported slavery or owned slaves also called themselves Christians, as well as most of the abolitionists and most of the slaves. It was the predominant religion at the time. Certain denominations leaned one way or the other but I don't the whole religion significantly leaned either way. The North/South divide was the main factor.

There were Christians on both sides, and on both sides they were using the Bible to justify their position.

Yet such propaganda was effective during its time. Think about what sort of modern propaganda uses the Bible as a justification for hatred. It’s also effective.

it goes to speak on the nature of institutionalized religion being a weapon to quell the masses and maintain oppression one trait that nearly every single institutional religion shares throughout history.

The Bible made it pretty easy considering there’s several passages in it endorsing slavery. That’s why I think it’s best to view it as a historical text and not a source of divine morality.

In the Book of Exodus alone, the Bible literally takes both contradictory positions on slavery.

Abolitionists were using Exodus to say slavery was wrong, for what should be obvious reasons to anyone who knows the general plot of Exodus. Slavers were using the latter, lesser-told, parts of Exodus, the parts where the Hebrews immediately got their own slaves as soon as they got their own country, as justification for slavery.
