I think when building dense housing it is incredibly important to intermix them with accessible and well-maintained public parks, recreation spaces, and community gardens. I think one reason people gravitate towards houses with yards so much is so they can have a sense of ownership over a space which they can use for recreational activities

Absolutely we need connectivity to yards and the space is totally why people want the subdivision houses. But that can still be built in a way that is dense and connected. The old suburbs adjacent to many American downtowns are great examples
