I mean, was it Team Israel? The World Baseball Classic was like, a few weeks ago. Israel had a team in the competition. Their merch included blue Stars of David on it. I think it’s totally fine to complain about the Israeli National Baseball Team selling Israel merch if that’s who it was lmao
I mean, I’m looking at the Detroit Tigers heritage jerseys rn, and almost all of them are based on flag colors for the heritage they’re highlighting. Choosing that specific shade of blue for the Jewish heritage jersey does kinda scream Israel when the Polish Heritage jersey is red and white with the Polish eagle on it, the Macedonian one is red and gold with Macedonian flags on it, etc.
Can I get a source on the blue part specifically? Everything I’ve found just searching around says that the Blue Star specifically is a Zionist symbol, adopted in 1897 by the First Zionist Congress. Stars of David have long been a Jewish symbol, for sure, but the blue ones specifically are associated with Israel/Zionism.
That’s where the blue color comes from, and where the two stripes come from. The star was chosen as the central symbol specifically because it was less religiously connotated and more of a cultural symbol, preventing sectarianism in the newfound Zionist movement. The Star wasn’t even fully cemented in the global eye as a Jewish symbol until the mid-1800s. It was used by all sorts of people before that because it’s a simple geometric shape.
