I’m fine with that. But the resources must go to things that have a proven success rate not 50/50 shot at POSSIBLY helping people + big pharma gets a cut every month. Apparently going to the gym has better recorded results combating a myriad of mental health illnesses as opposed to many things considered “therapy”.

That bill would cost $300,000,000/yr without needing proof that the programs improve mental health or justify the costs. Research shows little impact of broad prevention efforts like this. I feel like that money could be deployed more effectively to improve mental health outcomes.

Therapeutic not therapy and also it should be tailored to the person.

? According to the NIH prevention efforts are beneficial, but explain how poor implementation of it especially in low resource settings can lead to a decrease in effectiveness. That type of thing is true for anything however.

Yes, and it goes further if we look at social determinants of mental health. A lot of Indigenous and collective healing models treat mental health as relational to land, culture, community, belonging. Instead of only fixing the individual, they address upstream stuff like housing, isolation, poverty, and loss of culture. Zimbabwe's Friendship Bench uses trained community grandmothers, and Housing First cuts crises by stabilizing people first. Gym helps, but so does not being evicted.

Also the costs really shouldn’t matter especially when we spend over $100,000,000,000/yr on subsidizing for large corporations and send 3,800,000,000/yr at the minimum to Israel alone.

You know who let me shower there and use their wifi when I didn’t have a house/apartment in my name. All the gyms I was a member of. You’re right it’s not a long term solution, but I tell ya, people underestimate how awesome it is to know the gym network and the peace of mind it gives you when it’s like “okay, I have a car and or motorcycle… the essentials, and if I really need to do the other things I can just go to the gym.”

Would you support giving every black person in America a car and a AR15 regardless of criminal background checks and they drive into suburbs?
