HOT TAKE: Most “Patriotic/Folk” songs don’t suck and I’m tired of pretending they are on the same level as modern post 9/11 country music just because conservatives misquote them and can’t read the actual messages.

I’m confused about the point you’re trying to make, you mean music like This Land Is Your Land not being as bad as that one 9/11 song about putting a boot in brown people’s asses as a form of collective punishment

I like Poor Man’s Poison. They’re a modern band but they do a lot of labor folk-type music and it goes really hard. Feed the Machine and Give and Take are my favorites.

No I mean these songs are being compared to the uber patriotic post 9/11 slop that “top” country music “artists” put out. But yeah that song sucks too

I’m very lucky I haven’t seen that cause if I saw someone compare Guthrie’s music to Jelly Roll’s or Florida Georgia Line’s music I think I’d have an aneurysm

Right. And this isn’t saying all current country artists suck too. Just that brand of country I have no beef with The Dixie Chicks, Shaboozey, or Tyler Childers (I’m sure there are more).

Check out Sierra Ferrell and Nick Shoulders, I went to their concert blind as someone who doesn’t normally like country and thought she was wonderful.

The radio in my rural Oregon town plays the same 12 pop country songs on repeat and I CANNOT get over the “Try that in a small town” guy having grown up between Macon Georgia and the Miami suburbs. He isn’t even from a small town. He just wanted to virtue signal to racists and it worked.

Omg I fuckin hate that song. The town I live in hosts a small pga tournament every year, and almost every year they have a country artist. And with very few exceptions (The Zach Brown Band) they all sound the same to me. Beer, dog, women, ass, pickup truck, vague threats of political violence, more beer

And not the fun kind of political violence like beating the shit out of fascist… the lame kind

I truly don’t understand how so much pop country music sounds identical down to the tone of their voices.

It’s not like that’s all they can do some of them show signs of real talent. Luke Combs cover of Fast Car with Tracy Chapmen was great.

Yes at the CMAs a few years ago I think. Like Beyoncé made a better Country album then any mainstream CMA artist in the past decade or two. (Admittedly I do fuckin love me some Beyoncé but still)
