Like the only thing I would massively correct myself on this is saying that the Democrats are liberal, because that is only partially true. Democrats are a party that does have multiple ideologies besides liberalism in it.

I mean yeah it’s not hard but the amount of charity granted to one’s opposition in any given statement is a matter of rhetorical choice.

And what amount of charity to lend to one’s opposition in a statement to be “good rhetoric” depends entirely on one’s audience, or in the case of an anonymous public forum, imagined/intended audience. Highly charitable statements are good when you intend to convert a member of your opposition, you have to prove you know where they’re coming from. To galvanize people already on your side, you can be less charitable.

The left has to galvanize against liberals now? For context, someone who I assume was very unpolitical or a moderate was asking genuine questions about all ideologies. I specifically wasn’t trying to convert anyone, because I literally gave an almost neutral answer to fascism.

I mean you can call it rhetoric, but I just view it as good logical consistency. I can’t hate communism because “grrr you just want free stuff and things to be given to you!”. I have to be able to more or less understand the perspective/argument to better form my own.

I mean I used to be a shitlib, and it’s easier to let shit like that slip through a screen. I don’t talk in real life like that, I talk to liberals all the time, I studied political science in a system of liberal hegemony, I understand liberalism well and still find the same fundamental inadequacies. A lot of people, on all sides of the spectrum, do mot have that.

This is really going to sound like a “muh civility” argument but I promise it’s not. I don’t if I fully agree with that. I wasn’t pol sci, but I’ve read enough philosophy, Poli sci, history just because that’s more interesting than Six Sigma and Process Improvement. Again, I am totally fine if you disagree because I actually believe you HAVE read and you HAVE done your research.
