That's not true at all. Pilate was a notorious hardass and had him swiftly executed. As time goes on the later gospels blame the Jews more and Pilate less. The elaborate trial scenes are bullshit. No one was there to witness.

You’re making things up based on false assumptions. The Gospel of Mark is the earliest source we have. There are no major changes in the narrative in Matthew, Luke, and John’s accounts, just extra details. All the Gospels make it clear that Pilate made the statements about Jesus’ innocence to the crowds. People were there to witness it, and Mark begins the motif of name dropping witnesses that were present.
