I don’t think I ever saw anyone argue she was innocent per se, I more saw the argument that she was somewhat justified, as an abused child who killed her abuser. The argument isn’t “did she kill her mom?” it’s more “was it really THAT fucked up for her to do?”

Her mom was abusing that girl for like her entire life, and eventually she snapped. I don’t think that warrants a life sentence or necessarily demonstrates danger of her doing it again, which is what life sentencing is all about. It’s a terrible story, tragic on all sides, but I really don’t think it makes her an awful person who deserves a lifetime in prison.
