I’ll continue to vote for the lesser of two evils. I care more about impact than I do my internal sense of security when I think about the voting process

I don’t care who you vote for as long as you’re not JUST voting. If your activism stops at voting for the lesser evil then that’s a problem.

The question isn’t whether to vote or not, it’s whether or not will voters use their position to force our politicians to listen or will they continue tacitly accepting the false dichotomy they’re presented

Voting is great, but voting mindlessly along party lines with no intention of holding politicians accountable is just going to hold up the status quo

I mean you. an attempt to push more progressive candidates and I do when those candidates have to fight in primaries. But if a moderate dem were to win and run against a trump endorsed candidate, I’m not withholding my vote

I agree, I’m mostly criticizing the idea that it’s moral to withhold your vote in general because a candidate doesn’t align with you on everything or you’re a single issue voter

I think that withholding votes, especially in a primary, is the only real way to try to send a message to politicians because they don’t have to listen to us. And it’s frankly ironic for anyone to be accused of being a single issue voter when Kamala ran basically a single issue campaign. “Trump bad”, while a correct statement, is a shit issue to build a campaign around. The democratic party threw the 2024 election, not people withholding their votes.

I’d say withholding votes any time is bad. Primaries are the only real times rn to fight for a candidate you actually want. That’s like saying it’s better not to have voted at all when Mamdani and Cuomo were fighting for the candidacy She ran a bad campaign but she ran on multiple issues. Two thing can be true. The dems forced an terrible candidate and people prioritized their internal sense of security

How do you propose to pressure candidates if not by withholding, or threatening to withhold, your vote?

Grassroots campaigns, voting for progressive candidates in primaries. Again, Mamdani and Cuomo are a great example

Bc withholding just means you don’t show up and the people who support evil do. You write to your representatives, you protest still, we show and encourage a change in ideas. Politicians are our representatives, even the president, they’re supposed to listen to their constituents when they’re elected in office. If, let’s say, Harris won, and there was still a growing distain for Israel, you can’t say she wouldn’t have changed her mind and at least not have done what Trump did. That means smthn
