Marx and Lincoln used to correspond with one another frequently during the civil war, and Lincoln aligned with Communists on labor policy 🤷‍♂️

Lincoln would NOT be a radical leftist. His social policies towards black people and his thoughts on integration and how he planned to treat the south after the war are not at all what a 2026 leftist would suggest.

Dude wanted to ship black Americans to Africa because he thought they would never be able to integrate into American society. He did a lot of shit right, but he also could have done a lot better.

Lincoln wasn’t fascist like today’s republicans, but he was far from a radical. He disliked slavery but also promised not to touch it until the south openly rebelled over it. And even then, the emancipation proclamation was about the war, not the goodness of his heart or any antiracist feelings.

He wasn’t radical. He was no abolitionist. He just didn’t want slavery to expand.

Listen, if we’re holding him to today’s standards, that’s one thing, but if we’re examining the conditions of HIS time, you’d know and understand that conservatives were talking about Lincoln like he was the devil himself
