i think they mean more like, moral permissibility. nobody was happy with Russia doing this, but the entire point is trying to show how we are no better than Russia for doing something like this (which tbh i don't entirely agree with, but i'm just saying that's what they mean)

I do get your point and I think we’re on the same page for the most part. It’s just strange to me seeing people make that comparison when Russia invaded Ukraine, killing or wounding millions and devastating the country, all the while attempting to kill the president and massacring civilians, while we (while still wrong) spent 3 hours in country, got in a few firefights, arrested the president and went home.
