I had this classmate for a while in my political science classes who would take up a position I agreed with, and then argue for it very poorly. I fucking hated her WAY more than I hated the people who simply took other positions. Like bruh do not be a walking right-wing strawman of what we believe, PLEASE
Like, she was doing so well until someone was like “So what do you do with, like, a John Wayne Gacy type? Kinda guy who kills 37 people?”and she was like “I think even someone like that could possibly be rehabilitated” and I wanted to SCREAM. Like damn it is not hard to be like “that kind of person should be restrained from society forever, but the point of prison should not simply be to make them suffer” if you REALLY wanna do this “we can’t kill ANYBODY, EVER” shit
Yeah like I’m anti-death penalty politically speaking, but not philosophically speaking. I’m anti-death penalty because sometimes the courts fuck up. Even in my most ideal world, the courts would still fuck up. They’re run by people. People fuck up. With a life sentence you have the chance to let them out, and compensate them for their time spent, with a death sentence you don’t. Philosophically? Yeah some people just gotta go. But life in a facility/prison would make them “go” just as well.
