If only The Boondocks were around still they’d have a field day with Clarence Thomas. Man started out organizing for the Black Panther Party and anti-war movement just to become the most loyal soldier to a system that downplays and denigrates civil rights

I’m honestly astonished he wasn’t referenced in the original show given he was a sitting justice at the time. I guess he just wasn’t as visibly awful back then

What’s also insane to me is that he’s a native Gullah speaker. Gullah is a creole language spoken natively along the South Carolina and Georgia coasts. His first language is Gullah, not English. He was bullied for speaking Gullah. He comes from such a core culturally important black community and watched the civil rights movement happen right in the South.

He had the convictions in his youth to become a civil rights crusader for the rest of his life. And then he decided he wanted to fight for the racists. To harm minority communities across this country for an entire generation or more.

He internalized all the wrong lessons. He saw police brutalize protestors and took to heart not to challenge the system. He was denigrated as an affirmative action admit at Yale and worked his ass off to prove them wrong. Instead of using his experience to say that poc have a right to places that routinely cast them off and cut them down he blamed the very measure that gave him a chance to improve his life. Spent his career then punching down on civil rights and got to individually advance.
