I think obesity is a comorbidity, it can also cause other health problems so maybe they’re just acutely aware of the danger it presents to them

People do this thing where they cling to a surrogate issue/problem rather than face a real one. So for each of them it’s likely a different thing, the COVID “mandates” provided structure in a world that already felt unsafe to them. So ya know, try your best to be kind to them without feeding the ongoing dilemma within them (it’s still very real to them) But I learned this from talking to crazy people (ongoing academic study) :: nothing they say is random. It’s all a metaphor for a core issue.

What is that called? Because people do this with regards to death also. We find mundane and trivial things to get stressed and upset about despite the larger problem of our inevitable mortality

Aw geez, yeah there’s a formal name for it, but it escapes me right now. No joke I stumbled onto it while doing other research and it was so prevalent at the time it became one of the main focuses of a project I handed off to coworkers at the time.
