I’m proud of the diversity of our people which allows all sorts of people to be the best version of themselves. I’m proud of our government structure of checks and balances. I’m proud of our place as leaders of the world in economics, culture and morality.

Look, with all due respect, diversity of thought and population is the only thing worthy of being proud about out of that list. checks and balances? you’re joking, right? if they actually functioned as intended, maybe. our place in the world? Do you know how we’ve gotten to a position of holding leverage over nearly every single nation on the planet? in my opinion, our exploitation of others isn’t something to be proud of.

but hey, I agree on the diversity front. Too many people are obsessed with the idea of a homogeneous population at all costs (talking about our resident white supremacists and Christian nationalists)

I read through some of the federalist papers and I really appreciated the thought that went into the constitution. I think the separation of powers is valuable, the basis of federalism is well founded. I appreciate the legal system that we have in the US. Of course the system functioning depends on the people in charge, but it is very robust. Trumps first term wasn’t as bad as this one because the institutions were able to hold him back. Now he’s surrounded himself with sycophants.
