It’s crazy to me how people are losing their minds over Colorado’s “liberal” wolf reintroduction plan of a few dozen wolves when states like Montana have over 1,000 and are doing just fine.

Hi, Coloradan here. The problem isn’t the wolves, it’s how they’re doing it. The wolves were starting to come back on their own, but the median voter (read: moron) decided it wasn’t fast enough. So, CPW just grabbed just 25 and released them, and then had to pay out to farmers for dead cows. In total, to bring 25 wolves into the state, it’s cost us almost $5m, including $700k in dead livestock. People are mad because it’s been a largely pointless endeavor

You are right about what you said. While 5M is over budget, states like Wyoming refused to provide wolves to Colorado. Colorado had to get wolves from Oregon, increasing the price of transport. The Copper Creek pack is an anomaly that contributed to much of the livestock compensation. While the concern for ranchers isn’t to be ignored, less than 1% of livestock deaths are caused by wolves in neighboring Wyoming and Montana.
