wait so trump just made all these other forms of death penalty legal right before this guy "attempts an assassination" and now he will most likely be the first to use one of those new options

Can you explain? At the federal level the death penalty has been legal, usually by lethal injection

oh yea trump added firing squad, electrocution, and gas chamber back as options SO this guy will have more to choose from. oddly enough, I believe that firing squad has been studied to be the most humane option

Oh shit I didn’t realize this was so recent. This is likely also in light of it becoming much harder to get the drugs necessary for lethal injection (it usually comes from Europe and many of those companies do not sell to US departments of correction anymore) or laws requiring a doctor or nurse administer it (which is basically a moratorium, because the vast majority of healthcare professionals believe execution violates their codes of ethics)

Yeah, the issue with lethal injection is that if a healthcare professional doesn’t do it, the risk of something messing up is higher, and a mistake in this case usually means minutes of feeling like your arm is on fire, basically suffocating, or other stuff that is deemed cruel and unusual punishment
