Ive seen things going around and just wanna ask… why would anyone be against photo id requirements to vote? 😭 doesn’t that fix voter fraud like immediately

monkey want to go and vote for president. but monkey need monkey badge to vote first! monkey badge cost bananas, so in effect voting also costs bananas! every few years, monkey needs to pay bananas to renew monkey badge. no bananas? monkey can’t vote!

registering to vote already prevents most fraud and those who try to commit fraud are caught almost immediately

The problem is photo IDs cost money and can be hard to get depending on where you live

Photo ID requirements disenfranchise young, poor, and minority voters. Those groups all vote blue, hence why republicans love these laws

this is what we call, effectively anyways, a “poll tax”. poll taxes are outlawed by the 24th amendment of the constitution. it’s unconstitutional to require voter id UNLESS ids are also free. personally im in favor of voter id nation wide, actually! but only if the id’s used to vote (or at least the majority of them that most people would likely have) are free.

i think this is the bigger problem it’s stupid that an ID isn’t incredibly easy to get

well you see that’s the next problem! the constitution specifically says that the government must provide elections that are not only fair, but free. as in, free for any registered person to partake in. this makes it more difficult for some less wealthy parts of the country to vote if they’re not easily accessible by every man woman and child all across the usa

so they’d also need to ensure everybody has ample access to receive a birth certificate or drivers license or what have you. and some more rural parts of the u.s. (like my home town) simply don’t have the infrastructure within their cities to do so!
