If that’s how we came to be, the portal would probably be surrounded by a ton of religious mythology and beliefs and change fundamentally everything about human society and history

I would say every baby has the right to come out of that portal and we should not dictate who gets to live or die because we made a mistake

OP and everyone else, bookmark this post. Then come back in 1, 2, 5, or 10 years after you’ve had kids, whether by accident or on purpose, and tell me how right I was.

for bringing that up rn and pretending people get abortions simply cause they made a mistake

That’s what the whole post is about. The portal is a metaphor for women’s vaginas. And yes most people who get abortions do it simply because they made a mistake. Almost 95% to be specific. Google it Yes I know there are special cases such as rape victims or medical problems which makes the issue more complex and nuanced but those aren’t as common

the portal is a metaphor for a woman’s uterus not her vagina.

and people get abortions so they dont have to go thru 9 months of pregnancy, risk their life in 12 hours of labor, and have life long changes that will directly affect their chances of obtaining any of the big goals in life (career, love, selfhood)

Interesting implication that people who have kids can’t also be pro choice

Ok before you leave I just want to say I am maybe ok with pro choice in very limited situations such as rape or serious verifiable health risk to the mother. But if it’s two people who had unprotected sex and don’t think they are ready then they shouldn’t have the right to an abortion.

i understand that but it is not as simple as “i dont feel like raising a kid so im gonna kill it”. pregnancy and childbirth is the ultimate body horror. it is life ending in both literal and metaphorical ways and i urge you to look more into both the possible complications and super common ones

Our experiences are different. I’ve seen people get abortions because they were young, didn’t want to raise a baby with their partner, or for plenty of other reasons like that. I was in that situation myself, and before abortion was even on the table, I already knew we weren’t going to have one.

It’s part of pregnancy. Boo hoo your feet grew an inch or you have stretch marks. A lot of those things happen without a pregnancy. Those aren’t real complications. 90% of the things on that list will heal or are only aesthetic issues. Real complications is death ect..

How is giving birth to a child selfless? Having children is probably the most selfish choice there is. People who have kids do it because they want to, despite the fact that their kids will inevitably go through hardship

aesthetic issues shouldnt be overlooked with how the world quantifies young women’s worth. peeing yourself a little every time you laugh, having a giant ugly scar, constant intestinal issues, hair loss, wide ribs, and permanent belly fat/ marks /loose skin. that takes away a persons ability to be comfortable with how their body looks for the rest of their life. it affects their ability to find love or worth in societies eyes before they even really got started. their career and love life wil

Bro life is about hardships. That’s the beauty of it. You can’t appreciate the light without knowing the darkness. You need the rain to appreciate the sunshine. And the good thing about life is hardships aren’t forever and your situation can always change and you are the pilot of your life

Every mother have those issues but then they look at their babies eyes and realize it was all worth it. The amount of people I’ve met that didn’t want kids, ended up having them and thier kid became gods gift to them.

What about kids born in a war zone, destined to die horrible deaths at a young age? Or starve because of a famine? Should we be forcing people to have children in the midst of war, economic collapse, climate change, etc.? All so what, our posterity inherits a broken earth that kills them slowly?

So your argument is still contingent on material conditions, which are worsening in the US day by day. I can’t take you seriously if that’s what you’re saying

i say all this because you already know the risks of death or serious health complications. what you do not know is that not only is the entire thing extremely painful and horrifying. it is a permanent change and you cannot begin to imagine what itd be like to go through all that at 16

They still suffer though. Every human being suffers, it is guaranteed. And they are forced to contend with death. It’s simply not fair to them, especially when they had no choice about it

I love my life. I’ve been through plenty of hardship. But your opinion equates to forcing others to go through suffering, whether by having a child they’re not ready for or forcing a child to be born into unwanted circumstances in an already harsh world. Your perspective is not a happy or nourishing one

You don’t know that thier life will be 100% suffering. You don’t even give them the chance to let them experience those burst of happiness

Oh yes, we should take the gamble that this child will experience equal or greater amounts of happiness than sadness in their life and expose them to an untold amount of suffering. You guys never make any sense with this argument

if you had a button that would let you experience 5 minutes of pure bliss, the happiest chemical concoction the human mind could ever experience…. but immediately after it you had to endure 30 seconds of the worst torture on could imagine, the most pain and suffering a human could ever experience would you push the button

You’re not right though. Choice is what matters here. People who have kids on purpose will most likely love them. And those who don’t want kids most likely won’t have them. That’s the beauty of choice

its not 30 seconds of sadness its the worst physical and mental anguish possible for you to live through. imagine every bone in your body being broken repeatedly the entire 30 seconds while youre burned alive and drowned and suffering the worst 30 seconds of grief and dread and guilt and fear possible

“every mother will look at their baby’s eyes and realize it was all worth it” except for the 1 in 5 mothers that develop mental health disorders after childbirth, making it the most common childbirth complication
