bro doesn’t realize that psychedelics reinforce your pre-existing ideologies and patterns of thought, and thinks they’re a neutral actor that changes your views. this is the take of your buddy from high school’s older brother who you get weed from
call me a conspiracy theorist but i think the only reason psychedelics are illegal/taboo is because the government doesn’t want people to realize its authority is meaningless and that all the manufactured social divides don’t exist

Ehhhhhh there is some scientific evidence that psilocybin restructures neural pathways and can allow for new connections to be made (neuroplasticity) which is why it’s being found to be very helpful in treating PTSD and some other mental disorders. I’m not going to say OOP is engaging in some slightly conspiratorial thinking but at the same time you aren’t the most correct either

If you engage in more symbolic thinking regularly you are able to analyze the contents of your experiences when on psychedelics and realize what’s actually going on in your subconscious. They can definitely wake you up to things you never considered about yourself. It’s definitely not the most common experience though because most people don’t understand the concept of symbolic interpretation

I enjoy the occasional mushroom trip, it’s a good time! It’s just not a spiritual awakening that teaches me about the higher mysteries of existence or some shit. It’s a cool thing I do like once or twice a year. Nothing wrong with doing it. But it’s literally just recreational drug use, and it’s cringe to act like it’s deeper than that.

That’s the thing, we know so little about its effects on the brain that we don’t know why some people react differently. I can link a good summary of the study that came out on October but basically stress plays a big role in how long heightened neuroplasticity lasts but if I had to guess a shitty person is often less stressed so they get less from it vs a non-shitty person

Also human neurology is far more complex than the mice tested in the study
