While I disagree that criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic, there are clearly some Jewish ppl who feel that way, and I think we have to empathize with that feeling, even if it doesn’t reflect reality, because that has to feel shitty

I’m not going to mince words to appease someone that denies objective reality, you can feel things all you want but policing language to avoid hurting the feelings of Zionists is absurd

I 100% don’t have to empathize with that, just like I don’t have to empathize with white people who feel like DEI is racist against them. It’s a false belief and we can be gentle in correcting/disputing it, but we don’t need to legitimize false, harmful ideas just because they affect the person holding them.

Yeah saying Israel’s doing evil things and that you don’t support the actions of the government is different from reactionary rhetoric that’s posted every three hours here about Israel should be nuked, that just turns people off

You can hurt feelings while acknowledging that you’re doing so, ykwim? Like in this life you will inevitably offend pp land you don’t need to apologize, but we should acknowledge it all the same

Also empathy is not legitimizing their belief, it’s acknowledging that it is their belief
