I find it hilarious that leftists will simultaneously declare that the culture war is just a distraction from class consciousness and also crucify Newsom for making the same argument without marxist jargon.

If “we should spend less time talking about pronouns and more time talking about the issues that matter to people” feels to you like throwing queer people under the bus, you missed the point and desperately need to go outside and change your voter registration to something the fuck out of my party. You are holding us back and we are better off without you.

Okay but he is right. Spend less time talking about it but still be clear that you’ll support the queer community through policy, advertise yourself on the Dems’ objectively better average economic outcomes, take back government power and then do what we need to do. The reality is the average American cares infinitely more about their wallet than they do queer people. It’s not throwing queer people under the bus to change your marketing strategy while keeping your actual policy stance the same.

I don’t live in California, but I know who Gavin Newsom is. Whether we like it or not, that kind of name recognition matters when it comes to your typical, uneducated, and otherwise uninterested voter. Bro is literally trying to resist one of the most outwardly evil and dystopian administrations that we’ve seen in U.S. history and this is the bone that some of y’all decide to pick with him? Discuss policy. Weigh his politics against those of the Christian nationalists. Anything besides this.

I won’t vote for him bc of other stuff on the economic front, but he’s right to throw the culture war bs out the window

He’s totally right it’s about time democrats went back to being the working man’s party. To long now they’ve embraced themselves and the us abroad with this incessant pandering

But that’s not what this is? He’s not saying to abandon the culture war… he’s saying to side with the right in the culture war. This is a false dichotomy you’re presenting, he wants to give a free pass basically to the people trying to build concentration camps for gays and minorities because it’s not “a real issue”

I feel like it’s fair to say Dems should stop “spending a disproportionate amount of time on pronouns [and] identity politics” but I just looked it up and he also said they should be more “culturally normal”…bro wdym normal? 😭

My point exactly, he has literally no values. He can swap out beliefs at will to whatever he thinks is advantageous because he doesn’t believe in any of it. He’s a sociopath. Patrick Bateman is gonna be our next president 😭

I originally took that as him meaning less time should be devoted towards talking about it to the public. I still think LGBTQ issues should be a priority in their policies, but the rhetoric around that seems to harm their popularity. The average person still has the economy as their top priority, so democrats should make that the biggest priority in both policy and rhetoric. That doesn’t mean they should stop caring about LGBTQ people entirely

I didn’t say it was. I don’t even think anyone’s alleging that. My point is that many people don’t feel heard, and you can prioritize an issue that affects everyone, trans or cis. If anything, trans people are likely more vulnerable to economic problems because housing, credit, etc discrimination against them is still legal

Because we are two and a half years out from a Presidential election that not one person has announced their candidacy for, nine months from what could conceivably be one of the largest landslide midterms in American history that could set the next President up to be the most legislatively successful executive in history, and you are already running the opps fucking smear campaigns. Literally rope.

Democrats basically don’t talk about LGBT issues already though? As an example, conservative dems have tried to blame Harris’ loss on being “too woke” on transgender issues but she literally never brought it up. Democrats already basically ditched the entire issue

I must have missed the part where he said we should ban hormones and stack the court to overturn Obergefell and not pass equal pay, that’s crazy. You are so far up your own ass that you’ve forgotten the false equivalence you made up to feel better about bashing Democrats was false to begin with.

That exact attitude of “I hate what this candidate says but they’re our candidate so we have to support them no matter what” is why the Dems lost 2016 and 2024.

Smear campaign? It’s all true, it’s literally just what he said. Why are Blue MAGA anointing a right wing, reaganite scumbag as the democratic nominee? Do you think hitching our wagon to unpopular, conservative do-nothings will help us win this year and in 2028? The same people who have caused our party to have a 13% approval rating because they refuse to lift a finger to even try and resist MAGA?

Do you really want this guy as our only alternative to more Trump? Already forgot his racist remarks about black people last week?

Fair point. They didn’t mention it much after 2022. They claimed Harris was woke because of something she said in 2019. I would prefer if all dems (Newsom included) stayed away from the sports issue though. I don’t see what’s wrong with just saying the government shouldn’t be dictating how gender divisions in sports work, especially with a blanket rule for all sports

That was the gist of what he said, but the “culturally normal” and “fallen prey” (to what? Advocating too much for legalization of gay marriage? Tf?) understandably sounds concerning. Idk how this is a smear campaign when OP’s pic is quoting him though

I don’t hate what he says at all, sounds pretty based to me, but I’m not hyperfixated on trans bathrooms at the exclusion of everything else. I’m not sorry, some people are going to feel left behind, but it’s time to shift our attention as a party away from the things that you care about and back to the things that 90% of America cares about more. Choo choo.

Yeah because you’re a reactionary. Democrats already don’t talk about trans issues. Newsom basically goes out of his way to shout “I hate the tr*nnies” at every opportunity. It’s literally a non issue that for as much as he supposedly wants to get “back to basics” he can’t seem to stop talking about.

The fact that you can hallucinate racism from that clip when it’s very clearly not what was being said, not said to a black audience, pretty perfectly summarizes what I mean. You, actual Blue MAGA, are counter factually predisposed to absolutely shitting down the throat of any prospective candidate who is not a literal fucking commie, if Bernie ran and you remembered he was Jewish you would fucking abandon him too, and the country would be a better place if you lost your voting rights.

He was having a discussion with Andre Dickens, who is black, but the allegations of racism come from conservative influencers (ironically). What he actually said doesn’t come across as racist, but just didn’t seem worded well either I’m not sure what Bernie being Jewish has to do with this…

He literally said (to a black audience and ostensibly to the highly educated black man across from him) “i’m like you, i’m a 960 sat guy”. He literally outed himself as considering black people stupid or at best uneducated… He’s a liability… a conservative, dishonest liability. Just run Andy Bashear or J. B. Pritzker, they are competent, sincere and very popular in the states they govern, and don’t have a mountain of bigotry related baggage like Newsom does (not to mention atrocious

It definitely comes off as a racially questionable. Like c’mon “i’m like you, i had a low sat score” while talking to a black man with a chemical engineering degree from a well respected engineering school. it’s at best condescending. even if you want to be charitable to him, do we want our candidate that makes these kinds of speaking blunders?

I don’t think he said it’s “low”. When you take it into context with “I’m like you, not better than you” and the fact that 960 is just below average (currently 1020-ish), he was probably trying to convey that he’s an average person and not trying to come across as better than the audience. He definitely didn’t do a good job of it though 😭
