NYCHA itself is already one of the worst landlords in terms of unanswered work orders. This solves nothing

While I like Mamdani, I trust him as much as I do any other politician. Handing them over to “better owners” sounds risky, especially without a metric fuck ton of restrictive/precautionary measures that are PERMANENT. Once he’s out of office there’s no stopping these “better owners” from becoming exactly like the ones before hand, just with way more property, wealth, and power.

Honestly, if there was a career for me up there, I would move into the area

They won’t become NYCHA properties. It’s a revival of the third party transfer program

lol and yet it still failed before and was “accidentally” racist. Was only considered a problem because the worst landlords who it affected the most weren’t white

When the natural legislation works as intended and incidentally highlights a certain demographic, yeah I don’t think tweaking it for racial reasons is a good call for making it successful. Notice how the problem wasn’t “it wasn’t getting better” just “it affected this group disproportionately” Why would we want it proportionate to race?? It’s about making housing more livable

It’s not a racial fix it’s making it apply to a smaller, more severe class of violators and eliminating block pick up, all information in that exact article you posted. In a broader sense there are lots of color blind laws that are still discriminatory and should be rectified to address systemic inequalities and implicit biases. See voter ID, sentencing laws, zoning laws, etc.

If the reason it was scrapped was racial, then the fix is specifically designed to be racial. Either the policy works or it doesn’t

The policy works, and with some small changes minorities won’t be swept up disproportionately

So then it’s being changed to be less effective
