Ice needs to be abolished. It’s a redundant agency founded by fear and xenophobia in the aftermath of 9/11. It’s a relic that haunts us, just like the patriot act.

If you mean abolishing ICE and folding many of their personnel into CBP, where they’ll be subject to the same kind of oversight as every other Justice Department employee, then yeah I think we’d absolutely support that

Tbf I think efforts to break up drug rings would probably be led by the DEA and/or FBI. But surely ICE would be involved somehow

I think once theyre already here the concern should be getting them citizenship instead of uprooting their lives immediately. People have already been deported with no trial and I believe thats wrong.

CBP is under DHS so I don’t think much would change. ICE is basically just the enforcement arm for CBP

Damn they moved CBP to DHS? Wonder when that happened because in 2003 ICE was founded as part of DHS specifically because CBP was under Justice Dept. control and therefore had tighter judicial oversight.

If I had to guess, this was related to something post-9/11 when DHS was reorganized

I think it was definitely more recent than that, because DHS was invented after 9/11, it didn’t exist until 2003 and they didn’t fold CBP into it when they first established it
