It’s interesting, it’s probably because the media made Pope Francis look somewhat socially liberal, leaving out all of the other things his papacy taught that even most republicans would find extreme.

on truth, among other things. Plus, the younger generations of priests being ordained now are far more conservative across the board, so this soft spoken ness won’t stick around for long

catholicism and the roman catholic church are conservative. not news, but in some respects they may be more or less progressive. will they be progressive on abortion? fuck no. on homosexuality? here and there, sometimes. its a mixed bag. on social dynamics and issues relating to crime and punishment, more often than not theres a light of progressivism
