You can burn down an entire warehouse of TVs or cars, and there are people who have never broken a TV or car that will get more jail time because they hurt humans. Is the way we set out to achieve these ideals perfect? Far from it, but the people who actually value a TV or car more than another human are very few and far between.

there are people serving 25 to life for selling weed while others get 6 months for their 8th DUI where they hit somebody’s grandma, the system clearly doesn’t use hurting humans as the barometer
