I mean if you look up how the guy treated illegal immigrants, he’s always been a complicated figure. As pleasant as it is to think so, historical figures are rarely saints. It’s important to recognize their good work, but that they were people rather than symbols, and that means many did bad things too. I’m sure we can get our heads around that in a country founded by slave owners. That doesn’t undermine the value of their good actions, but shows how both good and bad must be known
