Why is the US considered a western country when we have some of the furthest east land in the entire eastern hemisphere?

Effectively Eurocentrism, “the global West” is Western Europe + those aligned with them, and “the East” is basically everyone else

Eh we call Russia eastern and they have the furthest west land in the western hemisphere
