Defending China is like defending the US, just because it’s a “communist” country doesn’t mean it isn’t also an authoritarian police state that outlaws dissent
Functionally it does though
Protest licenses need to be applied for well in advance and rarely are granted for those that target the government

And yes, obviously the social credit thing is not one score and it’s various systems.
But publicly speaking out against the central government will restrict various privileges you are granted
