Telling people with Tourette’s to control their tics is ableist.

its not right to blame someone with tourette’s for their tics but its also not right for Black men who made a movie about the trauma of racism to have the n-word shouted at them while they are presenting at an awards ceremony on live tv. idk the answer to it all but i feel bad for everyone involved

if their tic is routed in racism that’s a whole separate issue and the one being discussed

I haven’t seen evidence that it is rooted in racism. It’s more likely that this is rooted in fear of saying something incredibly inappropriate at the time, such as accidentally saying “I have a bomb” when in an airport. It’s Tourette’s with coprolalia

Some people involved in the discourse argue that he should not attend if he knows this could happen, which is incredibly ironic, considering he’s receiving an award for a movie about his life with Tourette’s and the stigma surrounding it
