Well, people's beliefs are going to inform their morality and their politics. But no we shouldn't use any one sect's unique or parochial religious views as the basis for public policy affecting everyone. I think Habermas says you the person needs a medium of translation, like, when you enter the public square you need to be able to articulate your moral convictions in terms that are universally applicable.
it makes zero sense to legislate anything on the basis of “ensuring moral purity”. public safety, sure, but not on moral purity. amphetamines, for instance, should be illegal. not because they’re “ungodly” but because they’re not safe for just anybody to take, you need to have a good reason.
fucking preach. i understand regulating recreational marijuana, that makes perfect sense. i don’t want kids smoking kush in the same way i wouldn’t want them drinking. outright banning it literally only makes people, especially impressionable young children, desire it more. BARE MINIMUM it should be federally legal for medical purposes.
Agreed. I’m moreso referring to the fact that THC levels in weed have risen astronomically since its popularization in the 60s, and even what our parents were smoking in the 80s and 90s. It’s the same effect prohibition had, turning beer drinkers to moonshine and hard liquor because it was easier to hide store and ship for the same level of intoxication.
This is a nothingburger Reddit atheist argument dude come on. “Erm, well if god was real, he would’ve quelled the rebellion!” No dude, people can claim god’s will and be wrong. Any well read Christian you said this to would laugh at you. I know this despite being one. Do a crumb of reading on viewpoints that oppose yours.
You’re a fucking moron dude. Look at pictures of Iran in the 80s. Look at pictures of Mogadishu pre-war. Also never reproduce, spare the world, you are *that* brainless. I was referring to Muslim extremists, by the way. Not zionists. Their bullshit was localized to Palestine until recently.
Anybody who claims to know God’s will is wrong. Conservatives claim that their policies are God’s will, just like monarchists and feudalists and islamic fundamentalists. People who believe that religion is a sound basis for policy ought to look over the history of the 30 years war.
Millions and millions dead, all in the name of the love of their neighbor! Babies dashed from the walls of towns! Entire communities put to the sword! Peasants’ homes burnt to the ground for fear of heretics hiding in their villages. Would a loving God - who backed the policies of a people He has claimed as his own - ever visit the plague upon that people?
You can read, dude. Are you a young earth creationist or something? Or do you GENUINELY believe that in in the year 0, nobody saw a problem with murder? Also also, the Ten Commandments came before Jesus!! They’re in the Old Testament you absolute dumbass. “Thou shalt not kill” mean nothing to you??
Holy bro😭😭. No I’ve never met a young earth creationist chill tf out. While yes, lots of people pre 10 commandments saw issue with murder, since its ban it’s been so heavily reinforced in Christian nations for almost 2000 years, this is especially apparent in western society. Also literally every single Christian knows the 10 commandments are from Moses, which is centuries prior, idk why you’re making random assumptions
well *I* dont believe, not that it matters when im talking to some cornball that talks like a 13 year old who thinks hes in a tiktok edit you have a *belief*, and that is subjective. you *believe* that your religion is objective. that in itself is subjective. like by the very definition of the word subjective, both are.
