
I feel like the thing is though that “disorder” in terms of mental stuff is pretty subjective. It’s all just neural variation and is inherently neutral. “Disorder” is something that it socially determined where we say “this neural variation is *bad* in some way.” Nature doesn’t care. It’s all just variation.
And we should let them do that because it doesn’t hurt anyone, but again, that doesn’t make it not a disorder. Similarly to asexuality (I bring this up because I can personally relate to it as an ace person), HSDD is a disorder. It’s not a disorder that hurts anyone else and just living life as an asexual is a perfectly fine way of treating it, but that doesn’t make it not a disorder.
I would even venture to say that the majority of personality traits are in one way or another mental disorders caused by chemical inbalances in the brain. Point being, constantly claiming that these things aren’t mental illnesses draws the line at mental illness, and hurts people with other mental disorders.
