We spend 1 trillion annually on the military and you’re pissed off that a tiny fraction of medical grants might be spent on research for trans people. We already do focus the majority of our disease funding on cancer and other major illnesses. A couple million to mental health care isn’t making the cancer research go away or even making a dent in its funding.

You have no valid argument so you think you can “common sense” your way out of it by claiming it’s taking away from cancer research or whatever. That’s not how federal funding works, programs are funded for a specific amount and they work off those grants until they run out. The amount they get is based off a detailed expense paper they send to the government when asking for the grant and are given what the government deems adequate. No money is “taken away” from other programs

Cancer funding is more important. Which is why it already receives billions upon billions of dollars in funding. A funding increase by a fraction of a percent isn’t going to meaningfully change the research results. We cannot neglect funding for literally everything except cancer just because cancer is a problem.

It is rarer. But a small amount of funding can go much farther in an underresearched area than in an area like cancer that already had so much attention focused on it. Cancer already has so much funding that a few million dollars isn’t going to make a dent in the research outcomes. But it could save a lot of trans lives.
