It can cause malabsorption, yeah, but won’t those symptoms be exasperated by an environment that is food insecure?? It’s still inhumane living if people with conditions can’t get the food they need to maintain a healthy weight. Weight loss is a symptom but as you can see it can be and often is overcome in places where calorie dense food is readily available and special dietary needs can be met. This child is still CLEARLY starving to death.
