Serious question, why are Libertarians often right wing coded? Shouldn’t a sincere and honest Libertarian have way more in common with Leftists in America? Go issue by issue. MAGA is way more authoritarian and heavy handed than the American Left.

I’m of the opinion there’s like 5 genuine libertarians in the country and the other “libertarians” are all either idiots or closet fascists

Historically libertarianism has been a left-wing project, right-wing “libertarianism” is a more recent invention that the bourgeois class propagandizes very hard to convince you is the only true libertarianism because it defines liberty loosely as “the absence of restriction”, most notably restrictions against coercion and exploitation of fellow-citizens.

In a traditional American politics belief it’s probably bc both [are supposed to] support small government. Lots of libertarians are under the impression social welfare shouldn’t come from a government but instead the community, and since a majority of leftist talking point is nationalized social welfare it’s a turn off. That and far left being anti private property is a huge turn off. That and anything other than capitalism is seen as a personal rights infringement

I mean that’s like the second most well-known one (right after never get involved in a land war in Asia). But never confuse negative freedom for true liberty has got to be up there as well imo

that and libertarians are huge on property rights, sorta antithetical to the whole abolition of private property thing. they’ll come around i’m sure, especially when they realize we all just want freedom to do as we please. capitalism just limits said freedom to private property and the interest of its owners
