Unpopular opinion: it’s good to think of the shareholders. 62% of Americans are shareholders, mostly so that they can retire comfortably.

Issue with this is that while most own SOME stock, The top 1% of Americans hold 50% of household stock. The bottom 50% own 1% of household stock.

These income groups aren’t stable cohorts. 73% of Americans will eventually be in the top 20% of income earners. A large part of this distribution is explained by age.

And what % will go from bottom 50% to top 1% (Yes about 10% of Americans will spend some point of their lives in the 1%, but those are mostly well off people anyways$ (Only 8% born into bottom quintile reach top quintile at all )
