I’m a bit doom-pilled about the climate currently. Energy-production is so tightly bound to state power that it’s in no countries’ interest to stop drilling for cheap hydrocarbons.

Downfall is doing a lot of work there, the entire government is still intact save for Maduro. But to your point, China investing a lot in renewables might save their ass down the line if they suddenly get largely cut off from fossil fuels (like the US would like to have happen)

Ah, by downfall I mean the fact that their economy has been cooked despite sitting on so much oil. I fully believe if they prioritized infrastructure maintenance, diversified a bit, and rooted out corruption then they could be like Qatar
