I’m not white, I’m generally leftist, but yeah I am not a huge fan of affirmative action in colleges . To be honest I can’t say if I got my scholarship because of my skin color or not . I’m not really a fan of that

You are falling for conservative propaganda. AA doesn’t mean scholarships go to people who don’t deserve it.

i’m a white woman and i know for a fact that affirmative action is what got me a couple of my scholarships. it was historically beneficial for white women more than any other group, unfortunately. truthfully, there’s more to affirmative action than just “let’s give more benefits to POC” but too many people just take it at surface value and don’t care to learn about what it really did & its effects; both successful and unsuccessful.

affirmative action is dumb as hell bc either u think 1) black people are too dumb to get good SAT scores, or 2) too poor if it’s the former, you’re racist (many leftists are). if it’s the later, why not just do it based on income not race then? nigerian-americans break AA supporter’s whole argument bc they both outearn and out learn white students

too poor has to do with continuing issues, like how public education is funded with local taxes. just a self fulfilling cycle of low quality education and needing to be split between school and other things to stay afloat when you say nigerian americans, do you mean immigrants? im assuming you do

Anyways I do understand there’s so many systemic issues beyond just pure family income. From education being funded by property taxes, police, parents education, disparities in healthcare, incarceration, environmental issues. But I fundamentally kinda don’t really think AA is a “right” thing for colleges to do in my opinion… so personally, I’m not a fan
