For anyone about to defend the US embargo. Cuba can be authoritarian or formerly authoritarian and the embargo can be unjust, and illegal. Two things can be true at once.
How are we not talking about Cuba, what is going on??? we are literally starving a whole population. If you care about Gaza you should care about Cuba!!!! 🇨🇺

The fact that we embargo Cuba while being all buddy buddy with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait shows it was never actually about authoritarianism. Plus like, Cuba now, while authoritarian, is significantly less so than the U.S.-backed dictatorship which formerly existed there. As I’m sure you know, we have replaced democracies with dictatorships before, just because those democracies were socialist.

The US embargo is not illegal. We control our ports. If you trade with Cuba in anything that isn’t food or medicine, you’re not entitled to trade with us. We can boycott you if we damn well please

While I get where you coming from (workers of the world deserve freed and self determination) the US forcing it to happen isn’t exactly great. Especially since we have a history of putting up puppet states

The workers of Cuba have self determination though and have since 1959, the USA is trying to literally strangle it out of them

I understand that but we can’t pretend like the previous government was freedom loving or truly pro-worker. Free speech was limited under his government. He however did lift and (or at least tried to) prevent further western domination. All governments have major room to improve.

Any government. While I recognize that the Castro government didn’t do anything worse than what the US does, that doesn’t absolve what they’ve done wrong.

Uh we actually tried loosening the embargo in the 2010s and they kept abusing human rights. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Cuba

I mean yeah, PCC isn’t perfect, but no amount of imperfection justifies strangling a country. This is true regardless if the leaders are or aren’t communist. You do seem to recognize this though

The US government supports many countries who have human rights abuses that, in comparison to Cuba, make Cuba look like a literal Christ figure being crucified. What makes Cuba’s abuses special in such a way that justifies embargoing them, and not say, Israel or Saudi Arabia?
