Taking it out on random Asian people (most of which aren’t even from the same country, not that it matters) is not the move

A Chinese-American gas station owner shot a black teenager in the back after thinking he stole a water bottle.

So I guess now this has sparked a larger conversation about the racism of many Asians toward black people, which seemingly now means there’s a push for black people to boycott ALL Asian-owned businesses.

oh you mean where that kid pulled a gun in the store after being called out over a water bottle and then got shot for pulling a gun? didn’t know his name

Wow. That’s crazy. In no situation is stealing a water bottle a reason to use lethal force on someone. Thanks for filling me in on this

Cyrus pulled a gun first?

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

The defense claims that Cyrus aimed the gun at the gas station owner’s son. The prosecution claims that the gun fell out of Cyrus’s pocket while he was running away but was never aimed at anyone. Chow and his son support the defense’s story, other witnesses support the prosecution’s story.

While the shooting happened 3 years ago, chow was just found not guilty in court so that’s why this is coming up again.

Nobody is taking it out on random Asian people ? Asian people are known to hate black people and are extremely racist towards them! Also this isn’t the first case a Asian person killed a young black kids and got away with it

So it is taking it out on random Asian people then.

Loud and wrong! Black people will continue to boycott Asian business and whether that makes a difference or not is up to us as a community plus I promise you we aren’t hurting their businesses a lot of black people go to more Hispanic and Dominican places

“It’s not racist, we are just attributing the actions of some Asian people to all of them and assuming that everyone from this entire continent must be racist and therefore boycotting their businesses based solely on their ethnicity”

It is in fact all of them have you traveled to Asian countries? But we aren’t boycotting for their ethnicity we are boycotting for a movement that Asian people can’t go around killing black kids? Please educate yourself there has been 3-4 other cases of this happening and all of them are 13-16 years old children!

Can we acknowledge that anti-black racism is a common bigotry among Asian-Americans? Absolutely. What you can’t do is assume every Asian person must be racist. That itself is racism. Some random Punjabi restaurant owner in Michigan has nothing to do with a shooting in South Carolina.

Black people boycotted target same difference now did that make target change their mind no but we don’t shop there 🤷‍♀️ simple we aren’t hurting their businesses but we will boycott them there is no harm done besides we won’t give our money to people who don’t want to welcome us

i’m glad you know 2 people who don’t shop at target but they do not represent even a fraction of the whole

You think that someone of an ethnicity originating from an entire continent is incapable of being not racist? That’s racist as fuck. Racism isn’t genetically inherited. Mamdani’s dad is an Indian from Uganda who is a famous anti-racist and post-colonial scholar. My Africana studies teacher in college was half-Japanese and half-Jamaican.

Again it’s not even racism, there are people who boycott the business because they want justice for Cyrus which is fair and some do it for racism but at the end of the day boycotting is to put on a movement and for this movement they want justice for what happened

Target is a company. Boycotting a company for the shitty actions of that company is completely different from boycotting a business owner because of their ethnicity, completely unrelated to their own actions as a person.

Actually it was a big movement that black people don’t shop at target and it was so bad that target put out a statement but again you want to play coy because you don’t believe in boycotting? Or movement missions? But its the same way BLM movement boycotted businesses simple as that

You do know that the point of a boycott is to hurt someone’s business to force change right? What is this supposed to do? Make them stop being Asian?

My entire point is that boycotting a company or individual because they have done something shitty personally is completely different from boycotting someone because they are Asian. They can’t control that.

That awesome love interracial couples people fought hard for the Loving v. Virginia but again my post was about boycotting and clearly you don’t know the definition of what that is? People do it for justice to put it simply and was this case not race base? Nobody should get shot for water and they should’ve called the cops why chase after him? And again there are 3-4 more cases just like this

Nobody is stopping them from being Asian? Boycotting is not to hurt people? It’s to make change why do you think slavery so gone? Rosa parks did a movement to be able to sit on a bus many boycotted bus services? We are boycotting for justice and again it won’t make a dent in anyone’s pockets the world is mixed of all races what black people boycott doesn’t mean white people will to or Hispanic people will to

How does boycotting Vietnamese nail salons get justice for a Chinese-American gas station owner unjustly shooting a black teenager.

I guess we are on opposite sides then 🤷‍♀️ I see your point but not in this case we go different ways maybe if this wasn’t a reoccurring issue then it wouldn’t need a boycott but there are more cases that prove this to be wrong? We are boycotting because we are sick and tired of being killed for nothing? And people getting away with it!

Boycotting causes change by causing harm. That’s the entire point of a boycott. The Montgomery bus boycott cost the bus company so much money that they were forced to desegregate, because they were losing all their income if they didn’t. The point of a boycott is to put a dent in someone’s pockets.

That’s a question for someone who goes to that nail salon I don’t have any of those near me so I can’t really relate to that but again it’s not hurt anyone’s pockets with black people don’t go to let’s say the Chinese restaurant or the Vietnamese nail salon? Again there are other races on this planet who don’t care or just go about their day and still go to these places 🤷‍♀️ nobody is getting hurt

I don’t get how you don’t understand that refusing to go to a business because the owner is the same ethnicity of people who got away with crimes is bad and racist.

Yes but again it’s for justice for a black boy? No offense but I haven’t seen one Hispanic person or white person say anything about this case? Which fair most people only care about their races cases which is fine but again we aren’t hurting anyone? Are we boycotting yes! For what? For justice for the three boys and 1 Girl who lost their lives to the same thing!

How does targeting unrelated Asian businesses lead to justice???? It’s the gas station owner in South Carolina who did the crime. Boycotting other businesses doesn’t get any justice because they had nothing to do with it.

You also have to realize the demographic Montgomery had a predominately black presence if this happened in let’s say New England or Boston it wouldn’t have made much of a dent in the bus companies pockets but yes I know the north didn’t want slavery and Blah blah but it’s a point of Boston has more of a white presence so therefore they wouldn’t have lost money

and I don’t understand how you think change will come if we don’t boycott? And again nobody is getting hurt? Toyota is still selling cars? Nail salons are still running? Convenient stores are still selling food? Show me the harm it’s done to these businesses?

There’s still Asian businesses operating in primarily black areas. Everyone knows about the Chinese restaurants that operate in primarily black neighborhoods. If this boycott actually happens across the board it would destroy their livelihood based on nothing but them being Chinese.

You target the legal system which lets people get away with these shootings. Not businesses owned by Asian people. And again, it’s not a boycott if it isn’t hurting the bottom line. That’s what a boycott is. A boycott produces no change if it doesn’t hurt people’s businesses. You can’t say this is seeking justice and also producing no tangible impact.

For one why would you set up a business in an area where you hate the people? And i am saying this about the convenient store guy where Cyrus took the water? But again why set up your business in a race based area you don’t like? Now ofc not all Asians are racist but how would you know that the Chinese restaurant you are going to isn’t? They serve you because that’s the neighborhood they are in but they can still hold hate in their hearts

You see red and I see blue, I can’t make you understand what I see vs what you see we see things differently but simply black people boycotting a business won’t put a dent in some of these places simple as that🤷‍♀️ but we will give our money to people who want us, that’s why a lot of black Americans go to black doctors instead of white doctors plus other things ofc but you put your money where you are wanted

People will set up in an area because there is business there. That can happen whether or not they are racist. You can’t know if anyone is or isn’t racist or homophobic or whatever other bigotry. But you can’t just assume someone must be racist. Yeah you can’t know for sure if the Chinese restaurant is racist but you also don’t know if your barber is secretly a misogynist or your mechanic is a homophobe.

Are you familiar with the history of the Delta Chinese? After the abolition of slavery, Chinese workers came into the Mississippi delta to work on the plantations. They ended up setting up stores and would sell to both white and black customers. They became middlemen in an era of segregation. If you’ve watched sinners that’s what’s going on. Business is business.

Well it is what it is people are boycotting and seeking justice, you do what you do and let people do what they do. If it works great we get justice, if it doesn’t then we try a different tactic or start a different movement! BLM failed their agenda with police brutality and they are trying to fix that but the same way we will do here

How does not doing business with companies owned by Asian people seek justice? What is the end goal here? What do you think this is achieving?

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #2 1d

Business is business sure but if you are a racist you wouldn’t want to be around those people anyway! In sinners the black guy and the shop owner were friends and they became close but that’s not for everywhere you go! So you are right not all Asian people are racist, but there are some that are, but that’s why a lot of places are black owned and mainly only black people go there due to the influx of people kicking us out of resturants or doctors not listening to us and etc

Like I said we will go to places that want us simple as that and that could be black owned places only and that’s okay we will go where we are wanted

So why is the movement “boycott all Asian businesses” and not “boycott racist businesses.”

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 1d

It could achieve nothing! But people want justice for things! And if boycotting is something people want to do then they will again these businesses aren’t getting hurt like I said there is what about 350 million people in America and only about 47 million people are black which is 14% of the race population that isn’t hurting anybody? We boycotted target they are still here

I can’t explain to you, I didn’t make the movement but if the majority of Asian companies are racist in the area you live then you might say boycott all Asian companies
