Tbf global warming was a bit of a misnomer and because of its widespread use people still misunderstand and believe climate change is strictly global warming, and not massive weather shifts (meaning more extreme cold and hot, on top of other natural disaster weather patterns), jet stream changes, ocean rising but also acidification, disease increases, biodiversity loss, animal migration changes, water scarcity, etc. Like sure average global temps are rising but climate change is not just heat

It’s not that I don’t believe in climate change, I just think it’s not as dramatic as the media makes it seem. I can go real deep on some theories on this haha but I don’t have any hard research to back it up

Well all the hard research says that it’s real, caused in large part by human activity, and actually more serious than society treats it as. Plus, half of our media treats it like it doesn’t even exist which is why we keep having to have this conversation. Also funny to me how most of the time when people say “the media” they only mean “the liberal media,” ignoring that the biggest media companies in America are the conservative ones.

I agree that part of it is caused by humans, but tbh if politicians really cared about climate change and if it was such a big deal, then why wouldn’t they be pushing for a massive switch to nuclear energy?? Wouldn’t that get rid of a tonnn of pollution?

Are you down for nuclear energy?? That’s my theory that I don’t have much hard research on. I feel like it has such little pollution that if climate change really is bad, then we just force the change to nuclear

Well they’re in bed with oil companies still. Also, love nuclear energy but it’s VERY expensive and takes years to establish — politicians want to campaign on cheap and fast

I’m huge on nuclear but nuclear energy is kind of like scary for a lot of people especially in Europe. In some segments on the left there’s a weird like anti-nuclear pro-environmental overlap similar to the fearmongering about gmos. Stuff like wind and solar are just more palatable and easy to create on smaller timescales and local areas compared to nuclear, which is a huge project over many years.

I mean, the fear of nuclear power isn’t completely baseless, we all remember Chernobyl. But one catastrophic failure caused by mismanagement that’s been studied TO DEATH so it never happens again is not a reason to be full-throat against nuclear power as a concept. Europeans gotta grow the fuck past a 40 year old incident in a country that doesn’t exist anymore.
