Not enough. Not everyone is guaranteed a retirement at 65 and a few healthcare complications will make you bankrupt. No safety net for the vulnerable.

There is also a big lack of respect for them. Sure, some of them have screwed things up, but on a human level, their wisdom and life experience is to be respected. How would you feel if you spent your entire life working hard only for the younger generation to say you are useless 50 years from now?

if we just de-prioritized taking care of the elderly and let them save on their own then we would have mountains of cash to put toward more productive things

actually, the elderly are the fastest growing demographic among the unhoused… they’re being priced out of homes by corporations and the property tax rates tripling in price.
